Our Approach

Our mission is to create a community based school, where three and four-year old children can take advantage of the teachable moments that happen every day. Professionals foster the intellectual, creative, social, emotional, and physical development of our students while inspiring a lifelong commitment to learning. We seek to create a caring and cooperative school environment that will promote civic mindedness and support positive social relationships and respectful interaction inside, as well as outside, our school community.

We have designed an environment that allows children to learn by doing – moving from concrete, hands-on experiences to more abstract concepts at their own individual rates. Multiple levels of support, guidance, and enrichment are provided so that each child can accomplish many levels of success all set in an age appropriate delivery.

We strongly believe that learning does not end in the classroom. Children need authentic connections with the natural world as a regular part of healthy growth. Learning outdoors helps to recognize and celebrate differing learning styles. ITAV is committed to fostering a strong connection between child and nature.

Finally, our four-year-old curriculum is aligned with the New York State Prekindergarten foundations for the common core, fully preparing them for a successful transition into public school kindergarten. Again, this curriculum is delivered in ways that are respectful of the ways in which preschoolers learn best.

Tell me and I forget, teach me I may remember, involve me and I learn.

As the title of our school suggests, it takes a village to raise a child, but also to nurture and teach them. We seek families that are committed to the educational well-being of their child as well as the rest of our community. It Takes a Village is unique in that it will offer many of its students an opportunity to foster the development of their fine and gross motor skills. Children will hone these skills in enrichment classes like dance, yoga, painting, music, singing, and foreign language, taught by committed members of our community.
